ALAJUELA PROVINCE - TOURS - COSTA RICA

ARENAL VOLCANO AND TABACON HOT SPRINGS

This is the most active and impressive of the volcanoes in Costa Rica. This volcano is located 70 miles ( 112 kilometers ) northwest from San Jose in the northern plains, 7 kms north of the small town La Fortuna. There are different roads that you can take to get there, but the fastest one will be the one by San Ramon City. The volcano belongs to the Tilaran Range of Mountains.

This almost perfect shaped volcano was covered with vegetation before 1968. Just before the big eruption during the year 1968, the people noticed that the cows could not drink water from the Tabacon River because of the rising temperature. After this, the volcano erupted violently covering more than 7 square kilometers ( 4.2 square miles ) with lava. Since that moment the volcano has been erupting daily at different levels of activity. This is one of the greatest spectacles of a visit to Costa Rica. It is incredible to observe and hear an eruption by daylight or by night. Seeing the lava rocks glowing down the hill at night is something you will never forget.

This one day tour starts around 9:00 a.m. from San Jose, traveling by bus and crossing the continental divide until arriving in the Caribbean lowlands where the volcano is located. The trip offers you beautiful landscapes of forest, mountains, pastures and agricultural fields. The tour will take you primarily to the Tabacon hot springs located at the foot of this magnificent volcano. The hot springs have one of the best volcano views and are surrounded by gardens and by a lush rainforest. You will have time to explore the gardens, relax and enjoy the hot springs while keeping an eye on the volcanos activity until it gets dark! After dinner, in that same place, you will return back to San Jose around 10:00 or 11:00 p.m.

Once you get to the hot springs you will have access to a locker and a towel to keep your things.

Includes lunch and dinner and entrance fee to the Tabacon hot springs.

SAN LORENZO CANOPY TOUR FROM SAN JOSE

Definitely an adventure you can not miss. We depart the city towards the mountains that surround the Central Valley, with scenery of spectacular vegetation and extensive coffee plantations, ornamental plants and picturesque typical towns of Costa Rica. As we ascend, we will enjoy the climatic changes of our country.
This is an experience that is enjoyed only once, as we slide from one platform to the next flying through the canopy.
Canopy San Lorenzo is located in the middle of a tropical forest reserve in a beautiful area full of orchids, bromeliads and other ornamental plants.

The sliding cable is divided in two parts:

The forest section, which starts with small cables so the passenger will acquire confidence while admiring the forest´s canopy.

The adventure section, with much longer cables suspended from high platforms that require large doses of adrenaline. The total length of the cable is 2500 meters or 8202,10 feet. There are 19 platforms and the San Lorenzo Canopy offers a 750 meter ( or 2460 feet ) cable, one of the longest in the country.

From one platform to the next the guide will explain the most important features of the forest. Finally, after only a short walk, we will have a delicious lunch in the restaurant Gran Vista.
We recommend bringing your camera, light clothes, comfortable shoes and insect repellent.

HIGHLIGHTS TOUR - 4 IN 1 - Poas Volcano - La Paz Waterfall Gardens - Sarapiqui River - Braulio Carrillo

This tour offers you the greatest variety of landscapes and vegetation that you can see in one day. It is perfect for people on a short break wishing to see the Costa Rican outstanding vegetation and scenery. The day will be fast - moving and fulfilling.

On this combination tour you will experience in one day at a no rush pace what is considered the most recommended tour in Costa Rica. After a delicious Costa Rican breakfast we will continue our upward journey to the Poas Volcano, observing on the way huge coffee fields, dairy farms, strawberry, blackberry, fern and tropical flower plantations. At an elevation of 2704 m above sea level you will experience one of the world´s widest active craters as well as enjoy a small hike on the refreshing cloud forest of this National Park.

After leaving the National Park we will be able to observe some dairy farms which have become the pride of Costa Ricans, due to the quality and the rich tasting products that are currently being exported. As we continue towards the Caribbean zone, we will stop to discover La Paz Waterfall Gardens, a Nature Park where we will walk on the truly spectacular trails that will lead us to Magia Blanca Falls ( the largest and most spectacular of the falls in the area ). At the park you will also witness a beautiful butterfly farm.

After lunch we will continue to Sarapiquí and on our way we come across the famous La Paz Waterfall, where we take some time to enjoy the splendid view. Less than a mile away we will encounter yet another waterfall surrounded by virgin forest, which becomes a great photo opportunity. Once we arrive at Puerto Viejo ( Old Port ), we will be ready to enjoy a relaxing boat ride on the Sarapiqui River, just sit back and observe the wildlife that is around you. The monkeys, iguanas, caymans, and the variety of birds will allow you to relax and concentrate on the scenery.
During the boat ride, our guide will also explain to us about the life style of the friendly people that live at the river margins.
Before returning to San José we will drive through the unforgettable rain forest of Braulio Carrillo National Park, one of Costa Rica´s most important rainforest reserves.
